Alex Acuna
The Peruvian drummer and percussionist Alex Acuņa, is a gifted musician, teacher and clinician with innovative grooves . His style is influenced by Peruvian traditional music, Latin rhythms, and his idols are Elvin Jones and Tony Williams. Alex is highly regarded for his ability as a Latin-Jazz, Jazz-Rock, Fusion drummer and percussionist. He has been No.1 in Modern Drummer's Readers Poll for several years as the best Latin/Brazilian percussionist. Will Kennedy, drummer in the group Yellowjackets says: - I call Alex our "ethnic consultant". On a lot of our tunes we write sequenced percussion tracks that we don't keep on the record, but we use as a sort of reference. Alex comes in and really brings an authenticity to the tracks. He's amazing in how he can almost instantly come up with parts that are just so perfect with what we are trying to say. He has instruments from all over the world, and he just adds that world-feel that we like to have in the music.
